About the position

Zachry Nuclear Engineering, Inc. is seeking an Engineer V for a direct hire position in either Stonington, CT or Charlotte, NC. This role involves performing engineering and design activities related to power plant upgrades and new projects, requiring extensive experience with power plant systems and structures. The Engineer V will be responsible for planning, organizing, and preparing modifications, while also managing project budgets, schedules, and quality with minimal oversight. The position requires collaboration with multiple design disciplines and mentoring of junior engineers.

Responsibilities

  • Perform engineering and design activities for power plant upgrades and new projects.
  • Plan, organize, and prepare modifications for technical projects.
  • Evaluate, select, and use standards, techniques, procedures, and criteria for engineering tasks.
  • Develop specifications and modification packages, defining design scope and criteria documents.
  • Identify and select equipment and instruments, and develop system functionality.
  • Manage budget, scope, schedule, and quality of assigned work with minimal guidance.
  • Interface and coordinate with multiple design disciplines and customer representatives.
  • Review and check designs, drawings, and data prepared by other engineers.
  • Mentor and provide oversight to entry-level and junior engineers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in applicable engineering discipline from an ABET accredited program.
  • Minimum of 20 years of related experience, with at least 10 years in nuclear commercial power plants.
  • Experience with operating plant procedures, processes, and nuclear plant licensing.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, along with presentation skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Effective time management skills to handle multiple projects concurrently.
  • Ability to pass security and drug screening and maintain unescorted nuclear plant access.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in applicable engineering discipline from an ABET accredited program.
  • Professional Engineering registration (PE).
