About the position

The Stationary Engineer position at The College of New Jersey involves overseeing the operation and maintenance of the Central Utilities Plant, which includes cogeneration, steam, and chiller plants. The role requires a strong focus on ensuring environmental compliance and performing necessary repairs and adjustments to various equipment. The selected candidate will work under the direction of the Chief Operating Engineer and will be responsible for maintaining efficient plant operations.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as shift engineer in charge of the cogeneration plant, boilers, turbines, generators, chillers, and auxiliary equipment.
  • Operate, maintain, and repair the cogeneration plant, generators, boilers, chillers, feed and vacuum pumps, fans, compressors, governors, and chemical treatment equipment.
  • Conduct periodic comprehensive tests and take readings of fuel consumption, pressure, temperature, and steam flow.
  • Perform water quality tests and chemically treat plant water systems.
  • Ensure plant operation maintains environmental compliance with NJ DEP and US EPA requirements.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Possession of an Operating Engineer's License (Blue Seal Minimum) issued by the New Jersey Department of Labor.
  • Valid driver's license in good standing issued by state of residence.
  • Two years of experience in the adjustment, repair, operation, and maintenance of air conditioning and heating plants and auxiliary equipment.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in English.

Nice-to-haves

  • Minimum two years of experience in a commercial/industrial environment as an Operating Engineer.
  • Experience in operation and maintenance of boilers, engines, motors, turbines, and auxiliary equipment used in power generation.
