About the position

The Engineer position is responsible for designing products and services to meet customer needs, providing technical support to the sales team, and assisting in business development and R&D efforts. This role involves creating detailed specifications, building prototypes, and ensuring that new product development aligns with projected schedules. The Engineer will also interact with vendors and customers, translating between English and Japanese as needed, and will mentor less-experienced engineers.

Responsibilities

  • Drawing rough sketches and performing mathematical computations to develop design specifications.
  • Creating quotes and detailed specifications for components such as seat heaters and steering heaters.
  • Building, inspecting, and shipping prototype parts, revising designs as necessary.
  • Ensuring that new product development tracks projected schedules, including engineering development and documentation.
  • Reviewing customer source control drawings and specifications to determine requirements and feasibility.
  • Diagnosing and resolving issues related to equipment and material supply in the engineering department.
  • Involving in quality engineering issues, including resolving customer issues and PPAP documentation.
  • Creating various reports, including monthly and customer-requested status reports.
  • Interacting with vendors and customers on engineering inquiries and presentations, including translation as needed.
  • Assisting with proposal documentation and technical data preparation.
  • Communicating design requirements and providing recommendations to customers.
  • Utilizing AutoCAD and CATIA for product design.
  • Communicating design, materials, and cost calculations with Kurabe Japan.
  • Performing preliminary and advanced work in developing layouts and master drawings.
  • Mentoring less-experienced engineers.
  • Performing heater testing and creating test reports for customers and Kurabe Japan engineers.
  • Keeping the manager informed of work status and progress on assignments.
  • Performing other work-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical or electrical engineering preferred, or 3+ years of engineering-related experience or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Superior English and Japanese language skills, with native or native-like proficiency preferred.
  • Proficiency in using AutoCAD and CATIA software.
  • Ability to perform mathematical computations accurately.
  • Strong analytical skills to examine data and develop solutions.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in the automobile parts logistics industry.
  • Familiarity with quality engineering and PPAP documentation.
  • Knowledge of electrical and mechanical tools.
