About the position

The Engineering Advisor - Process Safety role at TotalEnergies involves ensuring the safety and compliance of refinery operations through effective process safety management. The position requires a dedicated individual with extensive experience in process safety, particularly within petrochemical and refining operations. The advisor will work closely with various teams to implement safety programs, monitor performance metrics, and lead risk assessment studies, contributing to a culture of safety and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the Process Safety Group Leader and Shared Service Risk Assessment Engineers to implement Process Safety Management and Risk Management Programs.
  • Monitor refinery performance to ensure process safety goals are achieved.
  • Track, develop, and implement programs to ensure compliance with regulations, industry standards, and company policies.
  • Assist in compliance with OSHA 1910.119 and 29 CFR Part 68 regulations.
  • Steward and improve the Management of Change (MOC) processes at the refinery.
  • Monitor process safety performance metrics and report on refinery process safety performance regularly.
  • Participate or lead process safety incident investigations.
  • Engage in capital project HSSE reviews and significant change management proposals.
  • Review engineering plans and specifications for new process equipment and modifications, providing safety recommendations.
  • Lead or participate in risk assessment studies, including PHA, LOPA, and QRA evaluations.
  • Participate in Safety Audit teams and other assigned teams.
  • Engage in the Crisis Management Organization as assigned.

Requirements

  • Degree in Engineering, preferably Chemical Engineering.
  • 10+ years of relevant experience in petrochemical/refining operations.
  • Experience in site-level process safety activities is required.
  • Facilitation experience in risk assessment studies (QRAs, HAZOP, LOPA, Fault Tree, FMEA, SWIFT, RCAs) is preferred.
  • Experience in Management of Functional Safety lifecycle (IEC/ISA61511) is preferred.
  • Strong computer skills with knowledge of database functionality and risk assessment software applications.
  • Thorough knowledge of risk management concepts.

  • Experience in leading safety audits and investigations.
  • Familiarity with regulatory agency interactions and compliance processes.
