About the position

The Engineering Co-op position at Louisville/Jefferson County MSD offers students the opportunity to gain practical experience in civil/environmental or electrical engineering. Under the guidance of professional engineers, co-ops will engage in various engineering tasks, including data collection, analysis, and project management, while contributing to the regulatory and community service obligations of the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support in civil/environmental engineering under the direction of a Professional Engineer.
  • Manage engineering-related tasks assigned by the supervisor, including data collection and analysis.
  • Develop recommendations based on engineering theories and methods.
  • Attend consultant or contractor meetings with MSD engineering staff.
  • Develop a working knowledge of MSD's regulated functions and apply this knowledge to project contributions.
  • Conduct field inspections of MSD assets and/or green infrastructure.
  • Assist in the development of planning for future MSD infrastructure projects.
  • Archive configuration files for power monitoring and protection devices under the direction of the Sr. Electrical Engineer.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelors or Masters ABET-accredited engineering program as a full-time student in good standing.
  • Possess a valid driver's license.
  • Demonstrate safe work and driving habits.
  • Knowledge of basic engineering concepts and techniques.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements related to MSD's functions and processes.
  • Skill in operating a PC and associated Windows environment software (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Skill in oral and written communication.

Nice-to-haves

  • Ability to utilize Hansen, Arcview, eB, SharePoint, AutoCAD, and Telog.
  • Ability to learn and apply basic project management skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering plans and specifications.
  • Ability to work effectively under heavy workload and deadline pressure.
