About the position

The Engineering Co-op position offers students the opportunity to gain practical experience in civil/environmental or electrical engineering under the guidance of experienced professionals. The role involves technical support, data collection, analysis, and project management tasks, contributing to the regulatory and community service-level obligations of the Louisville Metropolitan Sewer District.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support in civil/environmental engineering under the direction of a Professional Engineer.
  • Manage engineering-related tasks independently as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Assist with project-related data collection and analysis.
  • Develop recommendations based on engineering theories and methods.
  • Learn basic project management skills and contribute to projects as appropriate.
  • Attend consultant or contractor meetings with MSD engineering staff.
  • Develop knowledge of MSD's regulated functions and apply this knowledge to project contributions.
  • Conduct field inspections of MSD assets and/or green infrastructure.
  • Assist in the development of planning for future MSD infrastructure projects.
  • Archive configuration files and arc flash study files for MSD facilities.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelors or Masters ABET-accredited engineering program as a full-time student in good standing.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • Must have safe work and driving habits.
  • Knowledge of basic engineering concepts and techniques.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements related to MSD's functions and processes.
  • Skill in operating a PC and associated Windows environment software (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
  • Ability to utilize Hansen, Arcview, eB, SharePoint, Autocad, and Telog.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering plans and specifications.
  • Ability to plan and organize work effectively.
  • Ability to work effectively under heavy workload and deadline pressure.

Benefits

  • Competitive hourly wage ranging from $18.00 to $20.00 for Civil/Environmental and $19.19 for Electrical Co-op positions.
