About the position

This is a full-time day shift position - Schedule is a 9/80 pay period. 1st week Mon-Thu 6am-3:30pm & Fri 6am-2:30pm 2nd week Mon-Thu 6am-3:30pm & Fri off. The role involves generating detailed work instructions to facilitate the manufacture and document acceptance criteria of specialty aerospace parts and assemblies. The position requires learning to interpret and use industry standard specifications, blueprints, drawings, and 3D models commonly utilized by aerospace manufacturers such as Boeing, Lockheed Martin, and Northrop Grumman. The candidate will interface with various shop departments including Quality Assurance inspectors and Mill/Router operators, and will have opportunities to cross-train in different departments to diversify skills and assist shop needs. The goal is to work towards a Quality Inspector certification indicating a strong knowledge base, high level of competence, and autonomy as a technical writer.

Responsibilities

  • Generate detailed work instructions for aerospace parts and assemblies.
  • Learn to interpret industry standard specifications, blueprints, drawings, and 3D models.
  • Interface with Quality Assurance inspectors and Mill/Router operators.
  • Cross-train in different departments to diversify skills.
  • Work towards a Quality Inspector certification.
  • Anticipate and adjust planning documents to avoid potential issues during part manufacture.
  • Verify and 'error-proof' planning documents generated by other technical writers.
  • Perform a 'deep dive' on individual parts by reviewing customer provided engineering data packages.
  • Track the progress of and update multiple parts at one time.
  • Identify missing or discrepant engineering documentation and contact aerospace manufacturer representatives for clarification.

Requirements

  • At least 1 year experience in manufacturing in the aerospace industry or prior experience in a technical writing position.
  • Proficient computer skills including standard Microsoft Office products.
  • Attention to detail, excellent memory, organization, critical thinking, multi-tasking, and time management skills.
  • Ability to retain feedback and a desire to grow into the writer role.
