About the position

The Engineering Design Manager (Civil/Geotechnical) at Alberici Constructors, Inc. plays a pivotal role in the successful execution of construction projects by collaborating closely with various teams including project development, operations, estimating, and project support. This position is responsible for leading the design process across all design disciplines for design-build, engineer-procure-construct, construction manager at-risk, and other alternative delivery projects. The primary goal is to ensure that the design maximizes value for clients while adhering to the contracted scope, budget, and schedule. During the design phase, the Engineering Design Manager organizes and manages the activities of the project team, which includes owners, designers, estimators, and construction operations. This involves conceptualizing and developing designs for significant building and infrastructure projects. The manager collaborates with the project team to define the scope and sequence of design delivery, including the composition and timing of early release packages. Establishing a culture of accountability within the design team is crucial, as is communicating project expectations regarding document development and construction budgets. The role also requires the establishment of project-specific information management systems and communication protocols throughout the design phase. The Engineering Design Manager drives design schedules by leading or participating in regularly scheduled design team and owner/architect/contractor (OAC) meetings. They manage change management logs, coordinate review cycles, and oversee Alberici's risk management concerning scope creep, gaps, and constructability issues. Additionally, the manager is responsible for maintaining a detailed RFP compliance matrix to ensure that designs meet the owner's requirements and for providing program validation to support building systems and owner-provided process equipment. Collaboration with the estimating team is essential to establish and periodically review cost trend logs throughout the design process. The Engineering Design Manager leads designers in adjusting designs to keep projects within budget and assists the estimating and operations teams in screening relevant trade partners and suppliers. They also collaborate with the VDC team to implement a project-specific BIM plan and support the operations/construction team during construction and close-out phases by managing design changes and issue resolution. Furthermore, the manager assists in developing design integration tools and best practices and serves as a subject matter expert for specific disciplines, performing peer reviews and constructability reviews. Lastly, they support project development teams during pre-proposal phases and participate in client presentations.
