About the position

The Engineering Design Section Manager is responsible for leading the engineering design team within the South region for the Water global practice at Burns & McDonnell. This role involves managerial direction, supporting business strategy, developing high-performance teams, and promoting the company's culture and values. The Section Manager will ensure profitable growth, manage resources effectively, and provide technical guidance while adhering to safety and quality standards.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership to the engineering design team and coordinate work assignments.
• Ensure efficient and cost-effective utilization of staff.
• Drive profitable growth of the section by managing staff levels and assignments.
• Implement and support company and regional initiatives while managing change.
• Provide expert technical and design guidance to the team.
• Achieve financial performance targets and manage the department budget.
• Prepare and present workload and financial reports to management.
• Collaborate with business development and project managers on proposals.
• Recruit, develop, train, and retain staff within the department.
• Conduct performance evaluations for department staff.
• Interpret organizational policies and goals to staff.
• Ensure adherence to QA/QC processes and safety policies.
• Promote diversity initiatives within the team.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in engineering, architecture, construction, or a related field from an accredited program.
• 5 years of related professional experience in design and/or project management.
• Previous leadership and/or management experience is preferable.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to present complex information effectively.
• Ability to influence, lead, and manage change positively.
• Strong project management skills and strategic perspective.
• Expertise in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
