About the position

As an Engineering Director at Google, you will leverage your extensive expertise in Machine Learning, Large-Scale System Design, and Responsible AI to lead initiatives that ensure comprehensive, automated, and robust ML lineage. Your role will involve utilizing your experience in Computer Science, particularly in domains such as Machine Learning, ML Infrastructure, and Responsible AI, to develop and implement strategies that enhance the governance of AI models and products. You will be responsible for creating a transparent and automated ML lineage and governance infrastructure that supports the development and launch of Generative AI models in a compliant, secure, and safe manner. This includes balancing the needs for ML lineage and governance with the velocity of development, ensuring that both compliance and efficiency are prioritized. In this position, you will work closely with various partners across Google to drive the adoption of these initiatives. Your ability to influence stakeholders and collaborate with teams across the organization will be crucial in building joint roadmaps and achieving desired outcomes for AI governance. You will also be expected to quickly ramp up in new subject areas, guiding mission-critical research into the largest potential risks related to Google infrastructure usage. Your leadership will be instrumental in motivating others at all levels, fostering a sense of purpose and direction within your team and the broader organization. Responsibilities

  • Develop transparent and automated ML lineage and governance infrastructure and tooling for developing and launching Generative AI models and products in a compliant, secure, and safe manner.
  • Balance complete ML lineage and governance needs with developer velocity.
  • Work with partners across Google to drive adoption of ML governance initiatives.
  • Influence partners and stakeholders within and across organizations to build joint roadmaps and drive outcomes for AI governance.

Requirements

  • 15 years of engineering and technical leadership experience.
  • Experience managing partnerships or client relationships.
  • Experience with Engineering Tools and Infrastructure.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working with LM/GenAI infrastructure.
  • Experience managing risk for organizations of Engineers.
  • Technical expertise in systems and software with the leadership skills required to influence technical leaders across the company.
  • Ability to quickly ramp up in new subject areas with short notice to guide mission-critical research into the largest potential risks related to Google infrastructure usage.
  • Excellent thought-leadership, relationship building, and management skills, with internal stakeholders and external partners.
