About the position

The Engineering Director will provide leadership for all Engineering-related staff, including communicating organizational and departmental goals and priorities, and setting the tone for departmental work within the organization. This role involves establishing goals for management staff and working with them to develop and monitor goals for non-management staff. The director will effectively manage departmental personnel to maintain fairness and equity, foster individual development, teamwork, and morale, and objectively evaluate employee performance and competencies while providing constructive feedback. Monthly staff meetings will incorporate safety and technical training sessions, presented in a manner that fosters understanding and willingness to learn by the participants. The director will oversee effective planning, management, and execution of all maintenance activities in collaboration with organizational leadership, and will be responsible for the development of physical facilities, construction plans, and infrastructure upgrades. This position also requires managing multiple concurrent engineering projects, schedules, budgets, and resource allocation, ensuring all continue to move forward appropriately.

Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership for all Engineering-related staff.
  • Establishes goals for management staff and develops goals for non-management staff.
  • Effectively manages departmental personnel to maintain fairness and equity.
  • Conducts monthly staff meetings incorporating safety and technical training.
  • Builds and develops team capabilities through resource analysis, hiring, mentoring, and training.
  • Oversees effective planning, management, and execution of all maintenance activities.
  • Plans and recommends the development of physical facilities.
  • Reviews and recommends approval of plans for construction and infrastructure upgrades.
  • Acts as liaison with contractors, developers, architects, engineers, and suppliers.
  • Manages multiple concurrent engineering projects, schedules, budgets, and resource allocation.
  • Serves as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for various engineering services.
  • Responsible for technical roadmaps and evaluation of new technologies.
  • Creates Key Performance Indicators to monitor areas of improvement.
  • Implements new technologies and applies creative solutions.
  • Builds and fosters proactive relationships with organizational leadership.
  • Administers Building Automated Systems (BAS) for energy management.
  • Communicates project status and progress to affected departments.
  • Ensures compliance with Joint Commission standards.
  • Oversees compliance of facilities maintenance and service contracts.
  • Develops department operating budgets and capital projects.
  • Implements operational plans to improve productivity and efficiencies.
  • Analyzes financial and work impact of major project decisions.

Requirements

  • BS in Engineering or Physics, required.
  • 15+ years experience in Healthcare System setting required in leadership role.
  • Knowledge of Joint Commission readiness, engineering/maintenance, construction/project management, clinical engineering, and energy management.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certified Energy Manager (CEM), desired.
  • Certified Healthcare Safety Professional (CHSP), desired.
