About the position

The Engineering Intern - Cell Modeling role at Rivian is designed for undergraduate or graduate students pursuing a degree in Li-ion battery research. The internship focuses on enhancing Rivian's electrochemical model to optimize cell design, providing a framework for better decision-making in cell design while minimizing costs. Responsibilities

• Cell electrochemical (P2D) model improvement (model fidelity, speed up, integration)
• Cell electrochemical (P2D) model parameter optimization and automation
• Cell electrochemical (P2D) model parameter sensitivity analysis and automation
• Cell model integration improvement (P2D + Battery model)
• Cell model-based design optimization framework

Requirements

• Currently pursuing a master's or PhD degree in Li-ion battery related research at an accredited university
• In-depth understanding of battery chemistries, electrochemical principles, and battery performance
• Experience in developing and validating models for electrochemical and thermal behavior of batteries
• Hands-on experience with modeling tools such as Matlab/Simulink and COMSOL
• Proficient in Matlab and Python
