About the position

The Engineering Intern position at Rivian focuses on providing students with hands-on experience in electrical engineering through participation in innovative projects related to custom controller design, vehicle modifications, and hardware/software integration. Interns will work closely with a team of engineers to tackle complex challenges and contribute to the development of emissions-free Electric Adventure Vehicles.

Responsibilities

• Participate in designing custom controllers, non-production builds, and vehicle conversions tailored to specific applications.
• Work with hardware, software, and integration for unique projects, building non-standard assets that demonstrate versatility.
• Engage in projects like modifying existing models (e.g., converting an R1T to a firetruck or other specialty vehicle) for testing, demonstrations, and creative applications.
• Contribute to projects requiring broad scope, quick turnarounds, and collaborative energy with a team of electrical and mechanical engineers.

Requirements

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, or a closely related field.
• Previous internship experience in a related field.
• Strong foundation in electrical engineering principles and hands-on experience in building and troubleshooting.
• Self-starter with a demonstrated ability to tackle complex projects independently.
• Experience with electrical simulation tools (e.g., SPICE), Arduino with C++ for interfacing compatible chips, and PCB design using KiCad, Altium, OrCad, or Eagle.

Nice-to-haves

• Participation in extracurricular technical clubs (e.g., Formula SAE, rocketry, robotics) is highly preferred.
