Brown and Caldwell has an opportunity for an Engineering Intern to spend a summer working with our Southern California team to support our San Diego office. We are seeking a motivated, achievement-oriented individual who wants to spend their summer gaining practical, hands-on experience outside of the classroom. Responsibilities

  • Complete support duties to advance team projects and objectives.
  • Work closely with project manager and other team members to execute work involving civil, environmental, and/or mechanical engineering principles.
  • Communicate effectively and coordinate with project teams including other disciplines.
  • Assist with the preparation of calculations, technical memoranda, reports, presentations, drawings, specifications, and miscellaneous contract documents.
  • Conduct technical evaluations to support planning and design related to water and wastewater conveyance and treatment systems.
  • Support municipal water and wastewater clients with pre-design tasks and alternative analysis.
  • Provide engineering services during construction, including assisting with submittal reviews and correspondence.
  • Participate in field work as necessary for projects.
  • Perform data entry, analysis, and visualization.
  • Successfully manage and deliver assignments on time and on budget.
  • Adhere to quality assurance/quality control process.

Requirements

  • Junior or Senior student attending university working on obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Civil/Mechanical/Environmental or related engineering field required; graduate students may also be considered.
  • Excellent communication skills and experience working in a team environment.
  • Strong technical skills with the ability to articulate ideas and concepts.
  • Desire to learn and work on detailed design projects.

Nice-to-haves

  • Self-starter, results-oriented, and ability to work under tight deadlines.
  • Ability and willingness to perform field work at various sites including wastewater treatment facilities.
  • Proficiency in standard software including MS Office, Outlook, Bluebeam, AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Strong aptitude for researching and solving technical problems.
  • Desire to gain exposure to engineering work in various engineering fields (wastewater, water, construction management).
  • EIT preferred.
