About the position

The position involves setting up, calibrating, and maintaining all equipment related to the area of specialty, which may include Metallurgy Lab, Welding, Thermal spray, and Air Flow. The role requires creating, following instructions, and checking lists to operate equipment and related materials for use in tests and/or production. Responsibilities also include preparing test specimens for evaluation or analysis, taking measurements, and performing analytical processes, product, and test sample evaluations according to both standard and non-standard methods. It is essential to ensure that all testing is accomplished according to customer and regulatory requirements, where applicable. The individual will record and report test results after performing calculations, analyzing data, and making graphical representations as appropriate. Additionally, the role involves approving processes, equipment, and material within established criteria and specifications, as well as training, delegating, and reviewing the work of lower-level employees.

Responsibilities

  • Set up, calibrate, and maintain all equipment related to area of specialty.
  • Create, follow instructions and checklists to operate equipment and related materials for use in tests and/or production.
  • Prepare test specimens for evaluation or analysis.
  • Take measurements and perform analytical process, product and test sample evaluations according to standard and non-standard methods.
  • Ensure all testing is accomplished according to all customer and regulatory requirements.
  • Record and report test results after performing calculations, analyzing data, and making graphical representations.
  • Approve processes, equipment and material within established criteria and specifications.
  • Train, delegate, and review the work of lower-level employees.

Requirements

  • Technical Associates Degree or High school diploma/GED and equivalent work experience.
  • 2 to 4 years’ experience in Aerospace or Industrial gas turbine engine engineering (laboratory, manufacture, or repair).
  • Experience with polishing, etching and evaluating Ni, Co and steel microstructures.
  • Previous experience with Cutting, Mounting, Polishing and Etching superalloys.
  • Familiar with Struers lab equipment cutting/mounting/vacuum impregnation/polishing/Hardness.
  • Experience with SEM microscopy (Tescan Mira and Vega).
  • Familiar with Ziess or Nikon Optical Microscopes (or any other type of light microscopy).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
