About the position

The Engineering Manager for AppArmor at Canonical plays a crucial role in enhancing the security of Ubuntu, the most widely used Linux distribution. This position involves leading a team of engineers to develop security features for AppArmor, which provides mandatory access control to protect users. The manager will be responsible for team development, collaboration across engineering teams, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality security solutions that impact millions of users worldwide.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a team of engineers, ranging from graduate to senior levels.
  • Coach, mentor, and offer career development feedback to team members.
  • Identify and measure team health indicators to ensure effective performance.
  • Implement disciplined engineering processes to enhance productivity.
  • Represent the team and product to stakeholders, partners, and customers.
  • Develop and evangelize great engineering and organizational practices.
  • Plan and manage progress on agreed goals and projects.
  • Collaborate with other leaders as part of the security engineering leadership team.

Requirements

  • Exceptional academic track record from high school and university.
  • Undergraduate degree in Computer Science or STEM, or a compelling alternative path.
  • Proven drive and a track record of exceeding expectations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.

  • Proficient in C programming and understanding of Linux kernel development.
  • Experience with Linux Security Modules.
