About the position

The Engineering Manager for Computer Vision at Meta's Reality Labs will lead a team focused on developing advanced Augmented and Virtual Reality (AR/VR) technologies. This role involves managing a technical investment portfolio, overseeing the integration of cutting-edge technologies, and collaborating with various teams to enhance social presence through Codec Avatars and XR technologies. The position requires a strong understanding of computer vision, machine learning, and robotics, along with the ability to make strategic decisions regarding resource allocation and project planning.

Responsibilities

• Leading an organization of applied scientists and engineers in the development and integration of advanced systems using Robotics, Computer Vision, and Machine Learning technologies.
• Owning the development of system requirements and collaborating with teams to mature and integrate necessary technologies.
• Engaging cross-functionally with researchers and engineers to advance collection pipelines across hardware, software, integration, infrastructure, and applications.
• Championing engineering and operational excellence by establishing metrics and processes for assessment and improvement.
• Recruiting world-class talent and providing technical leadership and guidance to team members and project peers.
• Setting clear expectations and creating a positive work environment based on accountability.
• Coordinating with various departments to define and execute technology development with key partners and suppliers.
• Operating strategically and tactically to define and execute long-term strategies and roadmaps.

Requirements

• BS degree in Engineering, Physics, Computer Science or equivalent experience.
• Experience in people management within multi-disciplinary global teams at the intersection of tech and product.
• Experience supporting an engineering and research organization through technical leadership.
• Demonstrated experience in recruiting and managing technical teams, including performance management.
• Experience in managing teams productizing Computer Vision or AI/Machine Learning technologies from conception to end.
• Leadership and interpersonal communication experience across many disciplines, driving best practices, and mentoring team members.
• Technical experience in leading teams/projects in machine perception domains such as machine vision, deep learning, sensors, and robotics.
• 3+ years experience coding in C++ and/or Python.
• Experience with code reviews, diff management, and CI/CD pipelines.

Nice-to-haves

• MSc or PhD in a related field of Computer Vision, AI/Machine Learning, or related domains.
• Experience managing joint hardware-software development and rapid prototyping projects.
• Experience leading teams interfacing with hardware teams in setting requirements and product tradeoffs.
• Flexibility and resilience in a dynamic environment.
• Knowledge of security best practices and experience with secure coding standards.
• Familiarity with testing frameworks and methodologies.
