About the position

The Engineering Manager for Controls and Communications at PNM is responsible for leading a specialized team of transmission planning engineers. This role involves analyzing and making recommendations for the operation and expansion of the electric transmission system, ensuring compliance with reliability and planning criteria, and overseeing the preparation of necessary documentation and budgets. The manager will represent the company in various regulatory and operational contexts, ensuring effective communication and collaboration with state and regional entities.

Responsibilities

  • Manage an engineering team of transmission planning engineers.
  • Analyze requirements for short-term and long-term transmission systems and capital budgets.
  • Evaluate transmission system improvements related to load growth and generator interconnections.
  • Prepare justifications for electric transmission expansion plans and associated operating data.
  • Analyze system transfer capabilities and specify design criteria for future generating systems.
  • Oversee compliance-related activities for transmission system facilities planning.
  • Plan, organize, and direct departmental activities to achieve goals and objectives.
  • Support and review retail regulatory filings for accuracy and consistency.
  • Provide research and expert testimony on transmission planning for regulatory filings.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related technical discipline.
  • Seven to nine years of related engineering experience in an electric utility.
  • At least two years of management experience in system planning.
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer is preferred.
