About the position

As the Engineering Manager for the Credit team at Monzo, you will lead the development of a new credit product aimed at improving spending rewards and promoting healthy financial habits. This role combines people leadership, product strategy, and technical oversight, requiring collaboration across functions to ensure the product meets customer needs and drives business success. You will support and develop engineering talent while also contributing directly to the codebase as the team grows.

Responsibilities

  • Support and develop top-tier engineering talent while fostering an inclusive and productive team environment.
  • Shape the product strategy alongside Product and Design to ensure it meets customer needs and drives business success.
  • Oversee the technical and delivery outcomes of the emerging Credit business.
  • Build and lead an engineering team dedicated to designing, developing, and launching the new credit product and its mission-critical infrastructure.
  • Contribute directly to the codebase and design as the team starts small and scales up.

Requirements

  • 2+ years managing high-performance engineering teams with a focus on people leadership, support, coaching, and development.
  • 5+ years building high-growth technology products using strongly-typed languages (Go, Java, C, Scala, etc.).
  • Proven track record of shipping products and leading teams in high-growth, product-focused organizations.
  • Eager to contribute to design and code alongside the team.
  • Accountability for delivery across the team, collaborating with Product and Design to shape the team's roadmap.
  • Strong focus on customer outcomes and building impactful products.
  • Ability to foster engineering excellence and hold teams accountable for technical outcomes.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in the financial technology sector.
  • Familiarity with agile methodologies and practices.
