About the position

As an Engineering Manager on the Best Buy's Data Adoption and Availability team, you will work with Product Managers, User Experience Designers, Architects, and other team members to modernize and build products that align to the product team's vision and strategy. The team is responsible for data strategy, availability, and adoption via self-service tools, AI services such as model registry and activation of models in experiences and business processes, multichannel testing and customer relationship measurement as well as the underlying cloud data foundation powering it all. You will leverage strong business knowledge and problem-solving skills with the technical leadership required to transform ideas into working realities and do so with a level of quality that gives our partners confidence that our shared customers are in good hands with Best Buy. This role is hybrid, which means you will work some days on site at a Best Buy location and some days virtually from home or other non-Best Buy location. The specific work arrangements vary by role and team. The recruiter or hiring manager will provide more details during the hiring process. For this role, you must be located within a drivable distance to our office in Richfield, Minnesota.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the quality and integrity of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) for their team and identify opportunities for improvement in how the team works, through usage of recommended tools and practices.
  • Solve highly complex issues by applying sound technical approaches.
  • Set the team's objectives and key results in collaboration with Product and Experience Design (XD) partners.
  • Communicate context to the team, and set clear expectations.
  • Design and build solutions with impacts across multiple teams.
  • Collaborate with other teams to find creative solutions to customer issues.
  • Provide technical guidance on issues that span multiple projects.
  • Manage individual performance through regular 1:1s, coaching, mentoring, and encouragement of development plans.

Requirements

  • 3 or more years of relevant experience with a bachelor's degree or equivalent software engineering experience.
  • 2 or more years of experience in tuning data model for performance and data quality.
  • 1 or more years of experience managing and leading engineering teams.
  • 1 or more years of experience with cloud computing services (e.g., AWS, Google Cloud).

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree in IT, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field OR equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • Experience working in an omni-channel retail environment.
  • Staying updated with the latest trends and technologies in data engineering and analytics.
  • 1 or more years of experience with data engineering and visualization that includes SQL, Airflow, DBT, PowerBI, Tableau and Looker.
  • 1 or more years of experience in creating data pipelines and BI tool integration using cloud native technologies.
  • Expertise with programming languages used in data engineering, such as Python, Scala, or Java.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively at all levels of the organization.
  • Proven experience of actively guiding their direct report's development plan.
