About the position

As the Engineering Manager for DoorDash's Frameworks team, you will play a crucial role in steering our data mobility initiatives. This position is paramount in leading a team dedicated to crafting core big data compute frameworks and a data mesh layer, ensuring a clear architecture that efficiently manages standard processing logic and custom requirements. Your focus will extend to fostering an engineering culture of excellence, empowering engineers to deliver reliable, flexible solutions at scale. Additionally, you will be responsible for building and nurturing a top-performing team, driving innovation and success in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. In this role, you will drive the vision and strategy for building the frameworks charter, positioning it to handle the challenges of a rapidly growing business. You will leverage your expertise in building and operating high-scale systems with a focus on reliability, scalability, and flexibility of the frameworks compute platform. Your leadership will ensure a well-run, successful team through coaching, mentoring, and providing technical and career guidance. You will also collaborate with stakeholders to build solutions on top of the platform and foster a positive and supportive work culture that encourages creativity and collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Lead the Frameworks team in developing core big data compute frameworks and a data mesh layer.
• Drive vision and strategy for building the frameworks charter to meet business challenges.
• Ensure a clear architecture that efficiently manages standard processing logic and custom requirements.
• Foster an engineering culture of excellence and empower engineers to deliver reliable solutions at scale.
• Build, sustain, and grow a diverse team to address the organization's growing needs.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to build solutions on top of the platform.
• Mentor and provide technical and career guidance to team members.
• Foster a positive and supportive work culture.

Requirements

• B.S., M.S., or PhD. in Computer Science or equivalent.
• 7+ years of industry experience.
• 2+ years of experience in an engineering management role.
• Prior experience in Systems Engineering with meaningful big data processing systems at scale.
• Experience with big data compute engines such as Apache Spark and Apache Flink.
• Familiarity with Datalake solutions such as Delta Lake and Apache Iceberg.
• Familiarity with a cloud-based environment such as AWS.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience building systems directly powering online applications.
• Exposure to various databases such as CockroachDB, Cassandra, and PostgreSQL.
