About the position

The Engineering Manager II for Personalization at Uber will lead the Marketing Personalization team, focusing on driving the technical vision, strategy, and execution of Uber's Marketing Personalization platform. This role is pivotal in enabling personalized recommendations and data-driven marketing experiences for billions of users, collaborating closely with Product, Applied Science, and Marketing teams to build scalable solutions across various business lines.

Responsibilities

  • Manage, mentor, and grow a team of high-performing engineers, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Define and execute the technical roadmap for the next-generation Personalization platform, driving advancements in recommendations and personalized content generation.
  • Work with Product, Applied Science, and CRM/Marketing teams to deliver impactful personalized marketing solutions that drive business growth.
  • Oversee the design and development of highly scalable systems and infrastructure for delivering personalized marketing content in real time.
  • Identify and drive new opportunities in AI/ML and data-driven personalization, enabling Uber to stay at the forefront of marketing technology.
  • Ensure system reliability, performance, and security at scale, supporting billions of personalized messages and experiences monthly.
  • Work closely with leadership and partners to align priorities, resolve challenges, and deliver business value.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Statistics, or a related technical field.
  • 8+ years of experience in software engineering, with at least 2 years in an engineering leadership or management role.
  • Proven experience in designing, building, and scaling distributed systems.
  • Strong people management skills with experience mentoring and developing engineers.

Nice-to-haves

  • Strong understanding of personalization and recommendation systems.
  • Experience with marketing technology, AI/ML systems, or personalization platforms is a plus.
  • Proven ability to work cross-functionally with product managers, data scientists, and marketing stakeholders.
