About the position

The Engineering Manager for IT Artificial Intelligence at American Airlines will lead a team of data scientists and engineers to create and maintain the enterprise Generative AI platform. This role involves developing governance and best practices for Generative AI, implementing AI solutions that drive business value, and fostering a collaborative environment that encourages creativity and professional growth. The position is crucial for shaping the future of AI capabilities within the organization.

Responsibilities

• Leads, develops, and mentors a high-performing engineering team with diverse technical skills.
• Exhibits strong business and leadership skills to guide solutions and coordinate with engineers.
• Collaborates with Business and IT leadership to communicate and execute the organization's technical vision.
• Creates an environment for delivery teams to be self-governing and accountable for performance.
• Removes roadblocks and cultivates relationships across IT and leadership levels.
• Manages project portfolio, ensuring timely project deliverables and communication with stakeholders.
• Assists team in developing and rolling out analytical models and tools to enhance business processes.
• Promotes the adoption of new technology trends to improve engineering practices.
• Responsible for hiring and managing squad members, including performance reviews.
• Participates in the design, creation, and monitoring of the enterprise Gen AI platform.
• Develops and enforces Gen AI governance best practices.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Data Science, or related technical discipline.
• 7 years of application systems development experience using ITIL / Agile / XP, or similar methodologies.
• 3 years of experience leading projects or teams.

Nice-to-haves

• Advanced degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Data Science, Operations Research, or related technical discipline.
• 5+ years of experience implementing large, complex projects.
• 3+ years of experience implementing AI/ML solutions.
• Airline industry experience, including engineering/business processes and supporting technology.
