The Manufacturing Technology & Solutions organization aims to drive manufacturing excellence across the enterprise. This is an opportunity to join the MT&S team as an Engineering Manager for the Manufacturing Automation Team. Factory automation is a crucial component of Caterpillar's manufacturing strategy. This role is tasked with building a team of manufacturing automation experts pointed towards developing and deploying automation technologies. Projects range from R&D efforts with vision systems and machine learning to factory robotic solutions. The manager will also be responsible for developing the talent of the next generation of manufacturing automation engineers as the leader of the Manufacturing Automation ERD program. The incumbent will manage a team of 10-15 engineers. Early talent development will also be a key strategic role for this position.

Responsibilities

  • Managing staffing, development, and performance management programs for engineering teams; motivating and developing project and team leaders.
  • Providing specialized engineering technical support and consulting services to various areas of the organization.
  • Managing high-impact, short and long duration engineering initiatives and projects; ensuring achievement of engineering plan and project quality.
  • Maintaining project plans and driving programs to completion on time and within budget.

Requirements

  • Requires a degree in an accredited Engineering, Computer Science, or Materials Science curriculum.
  • 4-year Engineering or Engineering Technology degree.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in factory automation and robotics.
  • Knowledge of machine learning and vision systems.
