In this role, you will manage functional teams through program execution for a wide range of products and services, including advanced mission payloads, electronic systems, highly integrated aircraft, and orbital and space exploration systems. You will represent the engineering department at all management-level meetings, ensuring that engineering design, documentation, and approvals align with program schedules. Your focus will be on maintaining productivity in engineering hours while meeting program goals and budgets. You will lead the Manufacturing Engineering team in preparing, conducting, and evaluating analyses aimed at planning improvements and solving manufacturing issues. This includes optimizing production methods and procedures in various functions such as layout, production sequence, tooling, material fabrication, and assembly/installation methods. Your leadership will be crucial in fostering a culture of continuous improvement and technical excellence within the team. The Mission Solutions and Technologies (MST) business area, where this position resides, is dedicated to providing affordable, turn-key command/control, communications, integrated ISR, force protection, and security solutions worldwide. The MST team has a rich history of supporting the Department of Defense, Department of Homeland Security, and various commercial and international customers, showcasing years of experience in platform operations, engineering, and full lifecycle management across multiple domains including air, land, sea, space, and cyber.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as Engineering interface between the program managers, customers, operations, and engineering department personnel.
  • Perform technical studies of complex nature, conduct analysis of operations (existing or proposed) and report recommendations for equipment needed and methods of manufacturing.
  • Perform special projects, create new procedures, and provide technical direction as assigned.
  • Generate proposal concepts, approaches, estimates and write-ups that are clear, concise, and cost effective.
  • Be an advocate and leader in improving design for manufacturing processes and practices to conform to SNC guidelines and customer needs.
  • Guide the authoring of detailed work instructions that optimize manufacturing process efficiency and opportunity for zero defects with MfgEng Team and functional Operations Manager.
  • Guide the authoring of MBOMs in CostPoint/MES/PLM (as applicable) to ensure all parts defined by Engineering are installed during the assembly/installation process.
  • Generate make-or-buy proposals and recommend corrective actions for areas of responsibility.
  • Conduct research, investigation, and analysis in connection with assigned planning or other assigned projects, to ensure conformance to requirements.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in engineering management, particularly in manufacturing engineering.
  • Strong technical background in manufacturing processes and methodologies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interface with various stakeholders.
  • Ability to conduct complex technical studies and analyses.
  • Experience in leading teams and managing projects effectively.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with aerospace or defense industry standards and practices.
  • Familiarity with agile methodologies and tools.
  • Knowledge of CostPoint/MES/PLM systems.
