About the position

The Master Data Engineering Manager on the Data & Analytics team at Ahold Delhaize USA will play a pivotal role in overseeing the full lifecycle development, implementation, and production support of the enterprise Master Data Management (MDM) hub. This position requires a deep understanding of MDM concepts and the ability to leverage advanced MDM technologies such as Stibo Step, IBM Infosphere, and SAP MDG. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring optimal data model design and implementation across various MDM domains, adhering to industry best practices and standards. In this role, the Engineering Manager will collaborate closely with data architects and engineers to design, develop, and configure business rules for data validation, standardization, matching, and merging. They will also implement data quality policies and procedures in conjunction with the Data Governance Team, ensuring the maintenance of critical data domains such as customer, location, and product data. The Manager will perform data analysis and source-to-target mapping for data ingestion and egress, while maintaining compliance with change control, SDLC, and development standards. A key aspect of this position is to foster a collaborative and inclusive team culture that encourages continuous learning and improvement. The Engineering Manager will be responsible for hiring, onboarding, and developing top engineering talent, establishing a technical vision and strategy, and mentoring team members to cultivate their skills. They will monitor and continuously improve the MDM ecosystem, manage team performance through KPIs, and surface insights to executive leadership as needed. This role is essential in guiding the team towards achieving high code quality and consistency, while encouraging best practices in coding, testing, and documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the full lifecycle development, implementation, and production support of the enterprise MDM hub.
  • Collaborate with data architects and engineers to ensure optimal data model design and implementation for each MDM domain.
  • Design, develop, and configure business rules for data validation, standardization, matching, and merging.
  • Implement Data Quality policies, procedures, and standards in collaboration with the Data Governance Team.
  • Perform data analysis and source-to-target mapping for data ingestion and egress.
  • Maintain compliance with change control, SDLC, and development standards.
  • Champion the creation and contribution to technical documentation and diagrams.
  • Hire, onboard, and develop top engineering talent.
  • Foster a collaborative and inclusive team culture that encourages continuous learning and improvement.
  • Establish a technical vision and strategy with the team and work to turn it into reality.
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, maintain, and continuously improve the MDM ecosystem.
  • Manage, develop, mentor, and coach a team of Software Engineers.
  • Surface insights to executive leadership as needed to update and influence.
  • Oversee the code review process to maintain high code quality and consistency.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
  • 8 or more years of equivalent experience in relevant technology fields.
  • 5 or more years of experience in an advanced role or technical capacity, leading teams directly or indirectly.
  • 5 or more years of experience managing Master Data Management delivery for Product, Supplier, or location domains using tools like Stibo or IBM Infosphere or SAP.
  • Proven experience leading large-scale master data management initiatives.
  • 5 or more years of experience in Agile teams and Product/Platform based operating models.
  • Experience with SQL, Master Database management concepts, MongoDB, Kafka, Mulesoft, etc.
  • Experience with distributed micro-services and/or Serverless cloud software architecture.
  • Experience utilizing Microsoft Data & Analytics Services (like Azure Data Lake, Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks, etc).

Nice-to-haves

  • Exceptional problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Experience with GitHub Actions or Azure DevOps Pipelines.
  • Experience in agile software development lifecycle.
  • Postgraduate degree or advanced training and/or certifications in relevant fields of study preferred.
  • Strong understanding of Canonical models, data publishing, and consuming patterns.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in retail or grocery preferred.
