About the position

The Master Data Engineering Manager on the Data & Analytics team at Ahold Delhaize USA will play a pivotal role in overseeing the full lifecycle development, implementation, and production support of the enterprise Master Data Management (MDM) hub. This position is crucial for ensuring seamless data integrations with various applications and systems. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of MDM concepts and will be responsible for implementing advanced solutions utilizing technologies such as Stibo Step, IBM Infosphere, and SAP MDG, among others. The role requires a technical expert who can guide a team and accelerate the implementation and maturity of Ahold Delhaize USA's MDM solutions. In this role, the Engineering Manager will collaborate with data architects and engineers to ensure optimal data model design and implementation for each MDM domain, adhering to industry best practices. The manager will work closely with data governance and business stewards to design, develop, and configure business rules for data validation, standardization, matching, and merging. Additionally, the role involves implementing data quality policies and procedures in collaboration with the Data Governance Team, maintaining compliance with change control, SDLC, and development standards. The Engineering Manager will also be responsible for hiring, onboarding, and developing top engineering talent, fostering a collaborative and inclusive team culture that encourages continuous learning and improvement. Establishing a technical vision and strategy with the team and turning it into reality will be key responsibilities. The manager will monitor, troubleshoot, maintain, and continuously improve the MDM ecosystem while managing, developing, mentoring, and coaching a team of Software Engineers. The role includes tracking and managing KPIs related to team performance and surfacing insights to executive leadership as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with data architects and engineers to ensure optimal data model design and implementation for each MDM domain.
  • Work with data governance and business steward(s) to design, develop, and configure business rules for data validation, standardization, matching, and merging.
  • Implement Data Quality policies, procedures, and standards along with the Data Governance Team for maintenance of customer, location, product, and other data domains.
  • Perform data analysis and source-to-target mapping for ingest and egress of data.
  • Maintain compliance with change control, SDLC, and development standards.
  • Champion the creation and contribution to technical documentation and diagrams.
  • Hire, onboard, and develop top engineering talent.
  • Foster a collaborative and inclusive team culture that encourages continuous learning and improvement.
  • Establish a technical vision and strategy with the team and work with the team to turn it into reality.
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, maintain, and continuously improve the MDM ecosystem.
  • Manage, develop, mentor, and coach a team of Software Engineers.
  • Surface insights to executive leadership, as needed, to update and influence.
  • Act as a mentor to engineers, helping them grow in their careers by providing guidance and support in their professional development.
  • Oversee the code review process to maintain high code quality and consistency.
  • Encourage best practices in coding, testing, and documentation.
  • Track and manage KPIs related to team performance.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Computer Science or a related technical field; equivalent trainings/certifications/experience equivalency will be considered.
  • 8 or more years of equivalent experience in relevant job or field of technology.
  • 5 or more years of equivalent experience in an advanced role or technical capacity, leading teams directly or indirectly.
  • 5 or more years' experience directly responsible for guiding, training, or onboarding team members in relevant technologies, capabilities, or skills.
  • 5 or more years managing Master Data Management delivery for Product, Supplier, or location domain using tools like Stibo or IBM Infosphere or SAP.
  • Proven experience leading large-scale master data management initiatives.
  • 5 or more years' experience in Agile teams and Product/Platform based operating model.
  • 5 or more years' experience in leading teams or advancing technical capability in teams.
  • Experience with SQL, Master Database management concepts, MongoDB, Kafka, Mulesoft, etc.
  • Experience with a distributed micro-services and/or Serverless cloud software architecture.
  • Experience utilizing Microsoft Data & Analytics Services (like Azure Data Lake, Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks, etc).

Nice-to-haves

  • Exceptional problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Experience with GitHub Actions or Azure DevOps Pipelines.
  • Experienced in agile software development lifecycle.
  • Postgraduate degree advanced training and/or certifications in relevant fields of study preferred.
  • Strong understanding of Canonical models, data publishing, and consuming patterns.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in retail or grocery preferred.
