About the position

The Engineering Manager for Mechanical and Structural at Tyonek Native Corporation will lead a team of engineers in the design and analysis of aircraft integration efforts. This role involves mentoring and guiding engineers in the integration of avionics and weapons systems, as well as structural and interior modifications across various vehicle platforms. The position requires strong leadership skills, technical expertise, and the ability to communicate effectively with both internal teams and external customers, including the US DoD and commercial entities.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct leadership for a team of engineers, including hiring, performance reviews, and career development.
  • Review and check CAD technical data packages, including 3D models and 2D drawings.
  • Guide and drive design solutions to complex structural and mechanical issues in rotary and fixed wing aircraft.
  • Review and approve various analysis reports.
  • Write and review specifications and inputs to technical volumes of proposals.
  • Participate in and present material in design reviews.
  • Communicate effectively with Airworthiness Authorities.
  • Review and support the creation of installation instructions.
  • Provide engineering leadership during prototype validation and verification of aircraft modifications.
  • Review completed installations for conformance to design.
  • Review qualification test plans and reports.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering (or closely related field) preferred.
  • Minimum 15 years of design experience required.
  • Experience in direct supervision of a team of engineers and technical staff.
  • Knowledge of mechanical engineering principles including airflow and component cooling.
  • Experience in aircraft structures design including sheet metal and composite parts.
  • Understanding of aircraft structures and load paths for crash loads.
  • Working knowledge of military and commercial aerospace practices and standards.
  • Experience with SolidWorks, CATIA, and/or Creo CAD software.
  • Ability to write and review airworthiness documents and test procedures.
  • Knowledge of aircraft corrosion prevention methods and techniques.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with DoD and/or FAA aircraft airworthiness certification analysis and reports.
  • Familiarity with MIL-STD-31000 and ASME standards.
