About the position

The Engineering Manager for Mobile Infrastructure at Lyft is responsible for leading a team that maintains and enhances the mobile networking, architecture, and UI frameworks. This role focuses on creating a collaborative and inclusive environment while driving technical direction and ensuring the team delivers scalable and reliable products. The manager will mentor team members, balance feature development with reliability, and work closely with the recruiting team to build a diverse workforce.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Mobile Infrastructure Engineering team responsible for maintaining and improving Lyft's mobile networking, architecture, and UI frameworks.
  • Collaborate with the team and the distributed Lyft Mobile community to elevate our technical and organizational plans.
  • Enhance the understanding of distributed Lyft Mobile community on how we enable them to achieve business goals quickly and reliably.
  • Balance feature development speed and reliability with our Objects and Key Results (OKRs) and mobile engineer support goals.
  • Mentor and guide the professional and technical development of your team members.
  • Help develop their careers, and assign them to projects tailored to their skill levels, personalities, work styles, and professional goals.
  • Build teams that are collaborative, inclusive, and respectful of each other.
  • Provide continuous feedback, guide individuals on their performance, and recognize the strengths and contributions of your team members.
  • Create plans for prioritizing technical and resourcing challenges in your organization.
  • Maintain a balance between building sustainable, high-impact projects and shipping things quickly.
  • Instill a spirit of continuous improvement in the team's code, architecture, and processes.
  • Work closely with the Lyft recruiting team to hire high potential candidates from diverse backgrounds.
  • Work with your engineers and stakeholders to maintain a prioritized backlog and create short term and long term goals.
  • Own your team's deliverables and ensure we continue to ship scalable, highly-available products that delight our passengers and drivers.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience as an Engineering Manager.
  • Previous experience managing Mobile and/or Infrastructure or Platform teams is a bonus.
  • Technical background to contribute to planning and design discussions.
  • Experience working on teams responsible for maintaining and operating infrastructure at a massive scale.
  • Experience with Mobile development challenges at scale and/or building internal libraries to support shipping quickly and reliably.
  • Steadfastly focused on customers, whether they are drivers, passengers, or other Lyft employees.
  • Experience leading a team of engineers and guiding them through their career development.
  • Built teams and products that scale with the company's evolving needs.
  • Enjoy working in a collaborative environment, committed to driving projects to completion creatively.
  • Built teams that are motivated and value a strong sense of ownership.
  • Experience guiding teams through planning, prioritization, and execution of work.
