About the position

As an Engineering Manager of Digital Payments at Citi, you will play a pivotal role in leading a talented team within the Digital Payments space. This team is responsible for designing, building, and testing customer products and platforms that facilitate key money movement features such as Wires, Zelle, Bill Payment, Inter-Institutional transfers, and Real-time payments. You will report directly to the Head of Digital Payments and manage a diverse group of engineers, including both employees and consultants located in the US and India. Your collaboration with Product Owners, UX designers, and production support teams will be essential in delivering key roadmap items that enhance the customer digital experience across various business lines, including Retail, Lending, and Wealth management. In this role, you will be expected to attract and develop senior talent, set high organizational performance standards, and ensure that departmental goals align with broader organizational objectives. You will lead the development and implementation of large-scale software projects, influencing both technical and business strategies. Your ability to communicate effectively and harmonize differing views will be crucial in achieving the right outcomes for your team and customers. You will also be responsible for conducting design reviews, mentoring team members, and ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Your focus will be on fostering a culture of engineering excellence, driving innovation, and simplifying software solutions. You will actively participate in the hiring process and mentor others to improve their skills and knowledge. This position requires a strong technical background in digital payment systems and a proven track record of delivering high-quality technology products in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • 10+ years of relevant experience in Software Engineering, focusing on digital payments and e-commerce systems.
  • Significant experience building complex business and transactional models.
  • Ability to deliver high-quality technology products in a high-growth environment.
  • Strong leadership and influencing skills, with experience managing a tech team.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and talent management skills.
  • Technical influence over multiple teams through collaborative software efforts.
  • Strong technical background in digital payment systems such as Zelle, ACH, and Real-Time Payments.
  • Proficient in Java, Angular, Swift, and/or Kotlin with experience in micro-services and mobile payment applications.
  • Experience with blockchain and distributed ledger technologies.
  • Solid understanding of secure coding practices and compliance requirements.
  • Expertise in building high-availability systems with knowledge of cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
  • Experience leading agile teams in fast-paced environments.
  • Strong analytical skills with a track record of using data to make informed decisions.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working with enterprise-scale databases and microservices architectures.
