About the position

DoorDash is seeking an Engineering Manager with a strong product sense to lead teams within the Growth department, based in either San Francisco or Seattle. This team is pivotal in driving DoorDash's growth initiatives, consisting of engineers from various backgrounds including Backend, Frontend, Mobile, and Machine Learning. The Growth team is responsible for developing products that help acquire millions of new customers each quarter and generate millions of additional orders monthly. In this role, the Engineering Manager will leverage their expertise in Marketing Technology (MarTech) and Search Engine Optimization (SEO) to spearhead global marketing strategies and enhance organic growth efforts. The successful candidate will work closely with cross-functional teams, including Content, Acquisition, Brand, Partnerships, Product, and Engineering, to optimize customer experiences and maximize visibility in organic search. The Engineering Manager will be responsible for developing and executing strategic roadmaps for both marketing technologies and organic search initiatives, aimed at attracting users, driving top-of-funnel metrics, and improving marketing efficiency. Additionally, the role involves scaling technology infrastructure and SEO efforts, ensuring the seamless integration of tools and strategies to unlock growth channels and enhance overall performance. The ideal candidate will manage a full-stack team comprising iOS, Android, web, and backend engineers, partnering with stakeholders to define the roadmap and vision for the team, thereby delivering significant impact. They will inspire the team with a clear technical vision and create the necessary alignment to execute it effectively. Furthermore, the Engineering Manager will focus on building an outstanding team by coaching engineers, empowering them through delegation, and applying their technical expertise to uphold the highest engineering standards. Recruitment, retention, and development of talented engineers across various disciplines will also be a key focus area.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a full-stack team with iOS, Android, web, and backend engineers.
  • Partner with cross-functional stakeholders to define the roadmap and vision for the team.
  • Inspire the team with a technical vision and create alignment necessary for execution.
  • Build an outstanding team by coaching engineers and empowering them through delegation.
  • Recruit, retain, and develop highly talented engineers across different disciplines.

Requirements

  • B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Computer Science or equivalent.
  • 7+ years of industry experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years of management experience.
  • Strong hands-on experience working with non-technical stakeholders and cross-team collaboration.
  • Ability to handle ambiguity and work with product and business partners to collect non-technical requirements.
  • Ability to guide and grow an excellent engineering team in a rapidly changing business environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in MarTech and SEO strategies.
  • Familiarity with agile development methodologies.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
