The Video Algorithms team is looking for an experienced engineering leader and media expert who will drive strategy and lead projects in the area of Video Algorithm Systems. The team is at the heart of the business, and is responsible for providing solutions for each one of our business lines and consists of stellar engineers with diverse backgrounds in media processing, distributed systems and software engineering. Along with its sister Video Algorithm Science subteam, the Systems team develops, owns, and operates software, libraries, services, and workflows for video inspection, encoding, and quality assessment for all Netflix products. They work closely with partner Media Platform and Netflix Platform teams to innovate and improve efficient and performative media processing capabilities at Netflix. Additionally, they collaborate with certification, client, data science and CDN teams to ensure the right deployment and deprecation strategies for the streaming encodes on the platform, and work with various pipeline teams to ensure workflows and features for product and innovation requirements are productized and operationalized efficiently.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of high caliber software engineers with strong media expertise.
• Foster an inclusive team culture and empower team members to grow their impact.
• Evaluate technology and architecture choices considering the scale of Netflix streaming and evolving business demands.
• Define and execute the team's roadmap through collaboration with sister teams and partners.
• Prioritize and organize work to achieve the best outcomes for team members and partners.
• Leverage management and technical skills to improve the larger Encoding Technologies organization.

Requirements

• 3+ years of experience in hiring and managing high performance software engineering teams.
• Hands-on experience with building and operating media processing systems such as encoding, ML, or LIVE ingest and delivery.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Ability to build strong partnerships with other leaders and teams.
• Experience mentoring and growing both early career talent and senior engineers.
• Ability to work through ambiguity and show good judgment when evaluating business needs.
