About the position

The Engineering Manager for Video Software Engineering at NBCUniversal will play a pivotal role in leading and developing engineering talent within the Video Software Engineering team. This position is part of the Direct-to-Consumer (DTC) portfolio, which encompasses a range of consumer-first brands including Peacock, NOW, Fandango, SkyShowtime, Showmax, and TV Everywhere. The successful candidate will work collaboratively across these brands to enhance the streaming experience for users in over 70 countries. The role emphasizes a culture of respect, authenticity, and innovation, aiming to accelerate growth and improve consumer experiences through high-quality streaming services. As an Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for driving technical initiatives in partnership with senior engineers across multiple teams, focusing on key areas such as testing, resiliency, and performance. You will collaborate closely with various Playback Services teams, including Live/Linear, VOD, and Video Player, to monitor and improve Video KPIs on the Peacock application. Your responsibilities will also include managing relationships between internal teams, creating a data lake for end-to-end video delivery, and ensuring optimal integration of video players within Peacock applications. In this role, you will work closely with Engineering, Product, Project Management, and Backend Technology Services teams to build a highly scalable and reliable video infrastructure. You will develop software solutions based on operational needs, document and demonstrate these solutions, and prepare and install them according to system specifications and standards. Your leadership will be crucial in delivering on product roadmaps with a high level of quality, while also fostering an inclusive and high-performing team environment. You will support and mentor engineers, encouraging continuous improvement and a culture of diversity and collaboration.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with all Playback Services teams for Video KPIs on the Peacock application.
  • Build dashboards and automation for the NBCUniversal Video Operations team.
  • Manage relationships between multiple internal teams.
  • Own and create a data lake for end-to-end video delivery.
  • Collaborate with teams building Peacock applications, ensuring optimal integration of the video players.
  • Work closely with Engineering/Product/Project Management and Backend Technology Services teams to build highly scalable/reliable video infrastructure.
  • Develop software solutions based on operations; collaborate and confer with colleagues, studying systems flow, data usage, and work processes.
  • Determine operational feasibility by evaluating analysis, problem definition, requirements, solution development, and proposed solutions.
  • Document and demonstrate solutions by developing documentation, flowcharts, layouts, diagrams, charts, code comments, and clear code.
  • Prepare and install solutions by determining and designing system specifications, standards, and programming.
  • Deliver on product roadmaps, incrementally with a high level of quality.
  • Drive technical initiatives in partnership with senior engineers across teams.
  • Constantly search for improvements in process, improve software delivery and operational processes.
  • Grow the team by attracting diverse talent that can push technical boundaries.
  • Support, coach and develop high performing engineers through regular 1:1s, continuous feedback and relationships with others.
  • Mentor individuals to embrace diversity and help build an inclusive and flexible workplace.
  • Proactively suggest changes to the process to enhance efficiency as the team evolves.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or related field.
  • 2+ years of Engineering Management experience, prior software development experience at senior level.
  • Ability to integrate into a large agile development project and manage rapid development cycles.
  • Understanding of how a high performing team of engineers looks like.
  • Understanding of deadlines, constraints and scope of delivery and experience working with business partners to ensure the right balance between these are met, setting expectations and handling risks early.
  • Being an analytic problem solver with a strong sense of autonomy, but with an open collaborative approach to getting the job done.
  • Committed to quality in every assignment, large or small.
