About the position

NBCUniversal is seeking an Engineering Manager for the Video Software Engineering team in New York. This role is pivotal in growing and developing engineering talent while building inclusive, high-performing teams. The Engineering Manager will work closely with various teams across Peacock technology to ensure the delivery of a high-quality streaming service. This position involves driving technical initiatives in collaboration with senior engineers across multiple teams, focusing on testing, resiliency, and performance. In this role, you will collaborate with all Playback Services teams, including Live/Linear, VOD, and Video Player, to monitor and improve Video KPIs on the Peacock application. You will be responsible for building dashboards and automation for the NBCUniversal Video Operations team, managing relationships between multiple internal teams, and owning the creation of a data lake for end-to-end video delivery. Additionally, you will ensure optimal integration of video players in collaboration with teams building Peacock applications. The Engineering Manager will work closely with Engineering, Product, Project Management, and Backend Technology Services teams to build a highly scalable and reliable video infrastructure. This includes developing software solutions based on operations, evaluating operational feasibility, and documenting solutions through various means such as flowcharts and code comments. You will also be responsible for delivering on product roadmaps with a high level of quality, driving technical initiatives, and constantly seeking improvements in processes to enhance efficiency. A key aspect of this role is to grow the team by attracting diverse talent and fostering an environment where team success is prioritized over individual success. You will support, coach, and develop high-performing engineers through regular one-on-ones and continuous feedback, while also mentoring individuals to embrace diversity and contribute to an inclusive workplace. Continuous improvement is essential, and you will proactively suggest changes to enhance team efficiency as it evolves.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with all Playback Services teams for Video KPIs on the Peacock application.
  • Build dashboards and automation for the NBCUniversal Video Operations team.
  • Manage relationships between multiple internal teams.
  • Own and create a data lake for end-to-end video delivery.
  • Collaborate with teams building Peacock applications to ensure optimal integration of video players.
  • Work closely with Engineering/Product/Project Management and Backend Technology Services teams to build highly scalable/reliable video infrastructure.
  • Develop software solutions based on operations and investigate problem areas.
  • Determine operational feasibility by evaluating analysis, problem definition, requirements, and proposed solutions.
  • Document and demonstrate solutions through various documentation methods.
  • Prepare and install solutions by determining and designing system specifications and standards.
  • Deliver on product roadmaps incrementally with a high level of quality.
  • Drive technical initiatives in partnership with senior engineers across teams.
  • Support, coach, and develop high-performing engineers through regular 1:1s and continuous feedback.
  • Mentor individuals to embrace diversity and help build an inclusive workplace.
  • Proactively suggest changes to enhance efficiency as the team evolves.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or related field.
  • 2+ years of Engineering Management experience, with prior software development experience at a senior level.
  • Ability to integrate into a large agile development project and manage rapid development cycles.
  • Understanding of how a high-performing team of engineers looks like.
  • Experience working with business partners to balance deadlines, constraints, and scope of delivery.
