About the position

The Engineering Manager at ZEISS Group will lead the X-ray Microscopy (XRM) team, overseeing product development and sustaining engineering activities. This role involves managing a team of 6-10 engineers, coaching and mentoring them, and ensuring the successful execution of projects related to the product line. The Engineering Manager will also be responsible for developing technical requirements, formulating test plans, and maintaining product quality and performance.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee product development and sustaining engineering activities within the XRM organization.
  • Manage a team of 6-10 direct engineering reports in a matrix organization.
  • Coach, mentor, train, and advise direct reports and cross-functional team leads on product development processes.
  • Guide the organization in developing technical requirements and detailed project plans.
  • Serve as project manager for critical projects, developing technical requirements and test plans.
  • Support operations, service, and manufacturing engineering teams in day-to-day management of sustaining activities.
  • Manage the engineering lab and maintain overall quality and performance of the product line.

Requirements

  • BS in Engineering, Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent.
  • MS or PhD preferred.
  • Minimum of 7 years of directly related experience in product design of capital equipment.
  • 5 years of experience in technical product development management.
  • Experience with microscopy, imaging, and related technologies.
  • Familiarity with Product Life Cycle or Product Development process, phase-gate approach to project management.
  • Experience with post-acquisition image processing, image visualization, image analysis, and computed tomography is desired.
  • Excellent organizational, leadership, decision-making, and communication skills.
