About the position

The Engineering Manager at Actalent is responsible for leading the Engineering and Maintenance Departments to achieve business goals through effective project management and long-range planning. This role emphasizes operational excellence, continuous improvement, and the implementation of Lean Manufacturing initiatives to maintain a competitive technological edge in the marketplace.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for operational excellence improvements within all operations.
  • Improve production standards and Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).
  • Coordinate and direct projects, making detailed plans to accomplish goals and integrating technical activities.
  • Confer with management, production, maintenance, and quality to discuss project specifications and procedures.
  • Analyze technology and resource needs to plan and assess the feasibility of projects.
  • Plan and direct the installation, testing, operation, maintenance, and repair of facilities and equipment.
  • Direct, review, and approve product design and changes.
  • Recruit employees, assign, direct, and evaluate their work, and oversee the development and maintenance of staff competence.
  • Analyze, define, and provide additional training required by department personnel.
  • Prepare, present, and explain budget and project proposals.
  • Inspect completed work for conformance to blueprints, specifications, and standards.
  • Train employees where inspection shows it necessary and provide technical assistance to Production Manager and Supervisors.
  • Evaluate existing procedures and job sequencing to ensure safety and economy consistent with Company and governmental regulatory requirements.
  • Assist in developing new techniques and methods for routine, non-routine, and project work.
  • Develop and recommend written procedures and work documents to simplify and improve the quality of mechanical and inspection work and work records.
  • Participate in the testing of tools and materials to determine if they meet specifications and plant requirements.
  • Act as a liaison with other departments and perform other special projects and tasks assigned by the Plant Manager.

Requirements

  • Stamping experience, including experience with presses (300-1500 ton) and weld cells.
  • Project management experience, including managing continuous improvement and capital projects.
  • Launch experience managing launches for new parts.
  • Comfortable working in a hands-on role.
  • Engineering and Manufacturing engineering experience.
  • Continuous improvement experience.
  • Engineering management experience.
  • Capital project management experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous experience in a management, leadership, or supervisory role is strongly preferred.
  • Candidates willing to step into a manager role with strong stamping and project management experience are also considered.
