About the position

Audubon is seeking an Engineering Manager for the Houston Execution Center. The Engineering Manager is responsible for the strategic and tactical leadership and management of all Engineering and Design personnel within the assigned Execution Center. This includes ensuring all Engineering and Design personnel have the technical/team skills and knowledge to successfully and profitably execute their assigned job functions. The Engineering Manager is jointly responsible for the achievement of all financial and non-financial goals and workshare objectives of the organization. This position reports directly to the Vice President of Global Project Execution. The Engineering Manager will oversee the overall development, productivity, and guidance of all team members. This role requires effective interaction and communication with direct reports, team members, clients, subcontractors, vendors, and other consultants. The Engineering Manager will set realistic expectations and ensure that assigned projects are completed according to schedule and within budget. They will also ensure that projects assigned to direct reports and team members are completed according to schedule and within budget, adhering to company quality standards and following engineering checking and approval procedures. In addition, the Engineering Manager is responsible for ensuring the overall quality and technical accuracy associated with deliverables produced by all team members. They will oversee adherence to safe design practices while focusing on identifying cost-saving opportunities. The role involves planning and managing workload, budgets, and project resources, as well as assisting in and coordinating the development of internal design guidelines, specifications, and design control procedures. The Engineering Manager will resolve project design and development issues, manage client relationships, and develop repeat business opportunities. The Engineering Manager will assess challenges and potential risks of planned projects, including construction costs, government regulations, potential environmental hazards, and other factors. They will undertake initiatives for risk management and appropriate steps to address it. This position also includes responsibilities for hiring staff, conducting performance evaluations, making salary decisions, resolving grievances and complaints, and initiating disciplinary actions. The Engineering Manager will approve time entry and expense reports pursuant to company/client policies and procedures, and provide advice and assistance on work techniques, best practices, and subject matter expertise to co-workers and subordinates as required to resolve the most difficult issues facing the group or project. Regular team meetings will be facilitated to provide/receive updates on the status of projects and to adjust recruiting, training, and management of Engineering and Design personnel to ensure the achievement of project goals and objectives. The Engineering Manager will ensure the proper resources and skill levels are assigned to projects, manage personnel resources of the Engineering and Design team, and set technical criteria for the team while ensuring conformity with current engineering industry best practices. They will evaluate the culture of the group and assess its congruency with the organization, manage interdepartmental relationships, and ensure proper communication to the Engineering and Design team regarding new initiatives, decisions, and dissemination of new programs, policies, and procedures. The Engineering Manager will maintain control of expenditures, monitor the revenue stream, and ensure margins are maximized within the assigned team. They will ensure that all Engineering and Design personnel are executing in accordance with established project budgets and forecasts, and that they are in compliance with company policies and procedures. The Engineering Manager will provide appropriate support to project teams in terms of insight and analysis of project progress and recommend recovery plans as needed. They will oversee and supervise Department Managers and the Engineering and Design team within the assigned Execution Center, holding overall technical responsibility for all activities performed by the team. This role also involves interfacing with HR to address personnel issues, including disciplinary action and termination when required, and ensuring compliance with all company and client health, safety, security, and environmental (HSSE) standards as well as federal and local HSSE regulations. The Engineering Manager will actively participate in hazard identification and observation programs, monitor and ensure safe working conditions for staff, and ensure all team members receive required safety training to perform their tasks safely. They will also ensure timely reporting of all reportable occupational incidents and assist in the completion of any investigations, including implementing corrective actions.

  • Primary coordination point for Engineering and Design within the assigned Execution Center.

  • Overall responsibility for QA/QC within Execution Center including technical audits as required.
  • Actively participate in company and client hazard identification and observation programs, and immediately report any unsafe acts, conditions or incidents to supervisor.
  • Monitor and ensure safe working conditions for staff, and ensure all team members receive required safety training to perform their tasks in a safe manner.
  • Ensure all reportable occupational incidents are reported in a timely manner and provide assistance in the completion of any investigations, including implementing corrective actions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering required.
  • Bachelor's Degree from ABET Accredited Institution preferred.
  • PE License preferred.
  • Field experience required.
  • Industry experience required.
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience preferred.
  • Large multi-discipline project lead experience preferred.
  • Prior supervisory/managerial experience within an engineering environment preferred.
  • Ability to make decisions or take actions to solve a problem or reach a goal.
  • Ability to find a solution for or to deal proactively with work related problems.
  • Ability to comprehend instructions and request clarification as necessary.
  • Ability to work in a team oriented environment.
