About the position

The Solar Engineering Manager at Standard Solar, Inc. is responsible for leading a team of engineers in the design and oversight of large-scale solar PV projects. This role involves managing project support, engineering designs, and ensuring compliance with industry standards while fostering the development of team members. The position offers an opportunity to work in a dynamic environment within the renewable energy sector, focusing on both management and technical aspects of solar engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a team of engineers performing project support and engineering design and oversight work.
  • Set objectives, review performance, and meet periodically with team members.
  • Review and approve timecards and expense reports for direct reports.
  • Assign and allocate work to direct reports.
  • Train engineers in interconnection application and management, production modeling, PV interconnection policy, and detailed PV system design.
  • Update and draft new standard operating procedures as necessary.
  • Review deliverables and work product of direct reports on a continuous basis.
  • Work with electric utilities to prepare and process interconnection paperwork.
  • Guide direct reports in the performance of engineering duties.
  • Review technical drawings and specifications of PV systems to ensure compliance with standards.
  • Manage relationships with equipment vendors to identify technical challenges and create solutions.
  • Participate in meetings and technical presentations to customers and investors.
  • Perform detailed energy production modeling calculations and electricity tariff analysis.

Requirements

  • 4-year bachelor's degree or 2-year master's degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or related engineering field.
  • Minimum 7 years of solar PV project and team leadership experience.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical power systems and PV design, including plant layout and performance modeling.
  • Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC).
  • Strong skills in solar project optimization for performance, cost, and constructability.
  • Proven experience in Microsoft Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Nice-to-haves

  • NABCEP PVIP certification is preferred.
  • PE license is a plus.
