About the position

The Engineering Manager at F5 is responsible for leading core data plane teams to develop and enhance the performance and scalability of application traffic delivery and security. This role emphasizes mentorship, collaboration, and strategic vision, particularly in utilizing Gen AI technologies to advance data plane capabilities. The manager will support team development, oversee software quality, and ensure alignment with product management and engineering leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Support, mentor, and coach team members while providing professional development opportunities.
  • Collaborate across teams to deliver high-quality software that meets customer needs.
  • Advise on architecture, code patterns, testing, and continuous integration details.
  • Take ownership of customer issues, providing timely fixes and root cause analysis.
  • Collaborate with engineering and product management leaders on roadmap and strategy.
  • Perform continuous evaluations of team members to enable frequent feedback.
  • Identify hiring needs and act as the hiring manager for recruiting engineers.
  • Foster a collaborative environment and engage with senior management and executives.
  • Champion a positive and cohesive team culture.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a minimum of 8 years of related experience with a bachelor's degree; or 6 years with a master's degree; or a PhD with 3 years' experience; or equivalent experience.
  • Prior experience in managing a team of software engineers is preferable.
  • Hands-on experience in cloud technology and deployments.
  • Expertise in L2-L4 network protocols and system programming.
  • Knowledge of software engineering methodologies and practices for the full software development process.
  • Working experience in Agile software development methodology.
  • Demonstrated ability in mentoring and developing people.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
