About the position

The Engineering Manager at AVI-SPL LLC is responsible for providing leadership and vision to the local engineering programming and CAD teams. This role involves managing engineering inquiries, fostering a culture of performance management, mentoring team members, and ensuring the timely completion of engineering tasks. The Engineering Manager will also be involved in project planning, customer liaison, and maintaining technical documentation, while staying updated on advancements in the audiovisual field.

Responsibilities

  • Build and lead an agile and responsive engineering programming and CAD team.
  • Develop and drive a culture of performance management and accountability.
  • Manage and resolve issues brought forth by engineering team members.
  • Mentor and engage in the personal development of the engineering team.
  • Communicate regularly with the engineering team to ensure consistency and timely completion of tasks.
  • Plan and implement engineering programs according to customer requirements.
  • Assist in establishing departmental goals and operating procedures.
  • Conduct frequent spot checks of team work for accuracy and adherence to standards.
  • Run lessons learned meetings as necessary.
  • Review pre-construction design and documentation.
  • Assist with technical design pricing as needed.
  • Act as a customer liaison for engineering inquiries.
  • Meet with vendors to evaluate products.
  • Provide post-sales project consultation.
  • Review project designs created by internal and external resources.
  • Review hour estimation for work based on needs analysis and bid requirements.
  • Identify special requirements for projects, including test equipment and rigging support.
  • Provide feedback on process improvement opportunities.
  • Review/test audio DSP to ensure proper functionality.
  • Monitor labor expenditures to stay within budget.
  • Manage internal activities that support client training.
  • Facilitate field testing of integrated systems and client training.
  • Translate customer requirements into functional system designs.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation according to company guidelines.
  • Contribute to improving process workflows and maintaining system administration.
  • Maintain scheduling and resources for the department.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent required; B.S. degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering, Computer Science or related field preferred.
  • At least 10 years of A/V experience with 4 years of Engineering Management experience preferred.
  • Proven ability to lead operational initiatives with a results-oriented approach.
  • Demonstrated leadership and management skills in a collaborative environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with all levels of the organization.
  • Understanding of engineering aspects of audiovisual systems design and installation preferred.
  • Ability to motivate and lead large project teams toward common goals.
  • Understanding of construction project management applied to audiovisual projects.
  • Proficient with test and calibration equipment preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
  • Clear and professional communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Demonstrated customer service focus and client communication skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret electronic schematics and architectural blueprints.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience operating in a complex matrix business environment is desirable.
  • Capability of managing multiple million dollar budget integration projects simultaneously is a plus.
  • Experience with planning, implementing, and managing engineering workforce activities.
