As an Engineering Operations Technician (EOT) at Amazon Web Services (AWS), you will play a crucial role in maintaining and operating our critical infrastructure systems within some of the world's most sophisticated data centers. Your primary responsibility will be to ensure that these facilities are prepared to handle any situation that may arise. You will work alongside a team of front-line responders who are dedicated to supporting the operations of our powerful data centers. This position requires hands-on troubleshooting and operation of various electrical and mechanical equipment, including stand-by diesel generators, switchgear, UPS systems, PDU's, AHU's, chillers, cooling towers, chemical treatment systems, pumps, motors, VFD's, and building automation systems. In this role, you will be tasked with driving innovation while reducing operational costs in the facilities. You will assist in troubleshooting facility and rack-level events within internal Service Level Agreements (SLA) and perform essential tasks such as rack installations, decommissioning, operational readings, and facility management. You will also provide key performance indicators to senior engineers and be responsible for the on-site management of contractors, sub-contractors, and vendors, ensuring that all work performed adheres to established practices, procedures, and local legislation. Safety is paramount in this role, and you will be expected to ensure that all safety procedures are followed while performing your work. You will also engage in basic support concepts such as ticketing systems, root cause analysis, change management creation, writing procedures, and managing building systems. The work schedule may vary depending on specific site needs, with shifts lasting up to 12 hours and potentially rotating on a predefined schedule. Some locations may require on-call rotations. Your efforts will contribute to maintaining the critical infrastructure equipment, ensuring an impressive uptime of 99.999% for AWS's cloud computing portfolio.
