Requirements

  • A high school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED).
  • At least five years of experience in monitoring construction projects, documenting materials testing, or inspecting projects.
  • Coursework from a U.S. accredited college or university in relevant fields such as chemistry, engineering, or environmental science.

Responsibilities

  • Certifies that contractor's work is in conformance with construction plans and specifications on assigned projects.
  • Inspects contractors' work procedures by being on site and familiar with plans and specifications.
  • Completes inspection classes, including Traffic control and erosion control, required for construction inspection.
  • Assists Project Engineer with project documentation, including writing daily diaries and quantity calculations.
  • Communicates with other departments within CDOT and external agencies regarding project changes or information.
  • Certifies that materials used in construction projects conform to contract specifications through field and laboratory tests.
  • Documents quantity and quality of contractor's materials using CDOT forms.
  • Executes physical tests on materials, including concrete, soils, and asphalt properties.
  • Studies CDOT manuals and attends training classes to enhance job knowledge.
  • Completes the inspector certification training program and other technical classes as required.
