About the position

The Engineering Product Development Co-Op at Abiomed offers a unique opportunity for students to engage in hands-on medical device development. As part of the ECMO development team, co-ops will contribute to the design, testing, and implementation of innovative solutions aimed at supporting patients with critical heart and lung conditions. This position is fully on-site and provides a chance to advance the standard of care in ECMO technology.

Responsibilities

• Conceptualize, develop, and iterate designs
• Test new designs (functional testing, mechanical testing, and simulated use)
• Brainstorm novel ideas for device improvements using test results
• Troubleshooting and resolving technical problems
• Provide documentation support and complete written reports on testing and designs
• Actively participate in design reviews

Requirements

• Currently enrolled as a student in a Mechanical or Biomedical Engineering Program
• Must have completed at least 2 years of undergraduate studies by Summer 2025
• Must be able to use 3D modeling software (SolidWorks preferred)
• High mechanical design aptitude
• Basic electrical knowledge
• Interest in the medical device industry
