About the position

In the Satellite Connectivity Group at Apple, you will be at the forefront of developing and managing the satellite network that provides connectivity to iPhone users when they are off the grid, without cellular or Wi-Fi coverage. This role is crucial as it supports services like Emergency SOS via satellite, which allows users to access emergency assistance when they have no other means of communication. You will have the unique opportunity to shape these critical services, enhancing the safety and connectivity of millions of Apple device users. As an Engineering Program Manager specializing in software programs, you will collaborate with both internal and external partners to realize, maintain, and operate the software services that underpin the satellite system. Your contributions will influence both client-side and server-side applications, ensuring that development targets are met and integration objectives align with schedule and performance targets. You will also play a vital role in ensuring that these services not only meet their functional requirements but are also deployed, operated, and maintained in a highly observable and resilient manner. Your responsibilities will include defining technical objectives and development goals in collaboration with development teams, managing and tracking development schedules, and interfacing with cross-functional partners to drive technical alignment and issue resolution. Clear communication of status, issues, and priorities to the project team and stakeholders, including executive management, will be essential. You will foster an environment of constant improvement across project teams, ensuring that the satellite connectivity services are robust and reliable.

Responsibilities

  • Work with internal and external development teams to define technical objectives and development goals, then manage and track development schedules to realize these goals.
  • Interface and collaborate with cross-functional/organizational partners to drive technical alignment, schedule alignment, and issue resolution.
  • Clearly communicate status, issues, and priorities to the project team and other stakeholders, including executive management.
  • Foster and drive an environment of constant improvement across project teams.

Requirements

  • Experience with client-side (e.g. on-device) software development programs.
  • Familiarity with FPGA development efforts is a positive.
  • Experience with the design, development, and deployment of server-side systems enabling services with defined service performance standards (e.g. SLAs and SLOs).
  • Demonstrated technical program management skills in environments that include internal and contracted development teams.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with an ability to adapt communication style as required for different audiences.
  • A curious mind that thrives in collaborative, fast moving, and ambiguous environments.
  • Prior experience as a people manager.
  • 5+ years of software technical program management experience.
  • BS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent required.
