About the position

The Engineering Project Coordinator plays a crucial role in the Planning Section of the Engineering Division at the City of Charlotte. This position is responsible for managing and coordinating tasks related to the Capacity Assurance Program (CAP) and Wastewater Planning Groups. The role involves utilizing hydraulic models and GIS software to evaluate the public wastewater system and assisting in the planning of public wastewater and water infrastructure. The coordinator will perform engineering evaluations based on large data sets, review construction plans, and collaborate with both internal and external clients.

Responsibilities

  • Perform engineering analysis, troubleshooting, and preliminary design of gravity sewer collection and water systems under the direction of a Senior Engineer.
  • Utilize computer-based hydraulic models for water and sewer system analysis.
  • Analyze sewer collection systems to evaluate existing and future capacity needs based on service requests and projections.
  • Assist with the Capital Improvement Program (CIP), developing project descriptions and cost estimates, and coordinating the CIP budget.
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external clients.
  • Assist with data compilation and regulatory reporting functions.
  • Oversee contracted third-party service providers to ensure timely and quality service delivery; inspect completed work for compliance and resolve issues.
  • Conduct field inspections and tests, including manhole inspection, flow testing, pressure monitoring, and distribution valve operation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Level Degree in Engineering
  • One year of experience in a related field
  • Knowledge of water and sewer system infrastructure, including design principles
  • Experience with hydraulic models preferred but not required
  • Familiarity with Geographic Information System (GIS) software
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to organize, manage, and complete assignments
  • Familiarity with Microsoft software, particularly advanced Excel functions and Word
  • Experience with large database software and working with large data sets.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with creating and managing computer-based hydraulic models
  • Familiarity with regulatory reporting functions
