About the position

The Engineering Project Manager will play a crucial role in leading project management for a diverse portfolio of new product investigations within Apple's Home team. This position involves collaborating with designers, hardware engineers, and software developers to create prototypes for next-generation home products. The role requires developing flexible project plans, overseeing daily tasks, and ensuring timely completion of prototypes while maintaining a high pace of learning. The Project Manager will also communicate progress to senior leaders and manage budgets, staffing, and project prioritization.

Responsibilities

  • Lead project management for a broad portfolio of new product investigations.
  • Develop flexible project plans and schedules for fast-paced exploratory projects.
  • Oversee daily tasks to ensure prototypes are completed on time.
  • Define important questions prototypes need to answer and contribute to key decisions about user experience.
  • Communicate progress to senior leaders in engineering and design.
  • Summarize prototype learning and translate insights into recommendations for product decisions.
  • Create demos that showcase new product concepts and their potential.
  • Continuously seek ways to improve project management processes.
  • Manage the lab's portfolio by balancing resources and overseeing budgets.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering.
  • At least 7 years of project management experience.
  • At least 5 years working with consumer-facing software or hardware products.
  • Exceptional ability to build relationships and influence in a matrix organization.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Basic knowledge of hardware engineering, software engineering, and design.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working with teams of diverse technical backgrounds.
  • 5 years of managing cross-functional teams in a matrixed organization.
  • 5 years experience working with designers.
  • Ability to think strategically while managing tactical details.
