About the position

The Engineering Project Manager at WSP USA will lead project management, engineering, and project controls for mining infrastructure and various industrial EPCM-type projects. This full-time role is primarily based in Salt Lake City, Utah, or Phoenix, Arizona, with a hybrid work model allowing for three days in-office and two days remote. The position involves managing a team to execute projects focused on mining, minerals processing, and other heavy industrial sectors, providing opportunities for professional growth and mentorship.

Responsibilities

  • Act as Project Manager for clients, leading a team to achieve project objectives within scope, schedule, budget, and safety requirements.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact with clients, ensuring satisfactory project progress and implementing corrective actions as necessary.
  • Coordinate a multi-disciplinary team of design professionals to meet technical needs and ensure effective collaboration.
  • Act as Project Engineer on certain projects, providing discipline coordination activities under the guidance of a Project Manager.
  • Monitor project health and performance using key performance indicators and report findings to management.
  • Perform project-related field tasks, attend key meetings, and oversee construction contractors during project phases.
  • Develop and maintain a project-specific risk register, managing issues from project kick-off through closeout.
  • Create a fit-for-purpose Project Management Plan and execute the project according to this plan.
  • Guide Project Controls in developing engineering schedules and hold teams accountable to the baseline schedule.
  • Provide guidance for cost estimating studies and coordinate technical input for proposals and deliverables.

Requirements

  • BS degree in engineering or a closely related field.
  • 5-7 years of relevant engineering or engineering project management experience.
  • Strong leadership and team-building skills, including experience managing remote teams.
  • Background in mining or heavy industry project management is preferred.
  • Experience in managing project teams to meet contract requirements while ensuring safety, quality, cost, and schedule goals.
  • Understanding of engineering consulting for industrial projects in the $1 - 50 million CAPEX range.
  • Experience in project financial performance tracking and reporting.
  • Excellent verbal/written communication, problem-solving, conflict resolution, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to liaise effectively between designers, owners, contractors, and end-users.
  • Certifications such as PE, PMP, or MBA are preferred.
  • Willingness to travel to project or client sites, primarily in the US.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with mining, minerals processing, or chemical processing projects.
  • Familiarity with project controls and performance monitoring tools.
