About the position

The Engineering Project Specialist/Water Resources Engineer in Training at Stantec is responsible for supporting various water resources and environmental engineering projects. This role involves working under the guidance of senior engineers and collaborating with project managers, GIS analysts, and environmental scientists to develop engineering data and perform hydrologic and hydraulic modeling. The position emphasizes teamwork, project coordination, and effective communication while contributing to flood risk studies and stormwater management designs.

Responsibilities

  • Perform hydrologic and hydraulic surface water modeling using HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, and other tools.
  • Conduct stormwater management, drainage, and erosion & sediment control analysis and design tasks.
  • Assist in plan development and cost estimating for projects.
  • Support FEMA Flood Risk Mapping and similar flood study projects.
  • Develop Conditional Letters of Map Revisions (CLOMRs) and Letters of Map Revision (LOMRs).
  • Participate in field work as needed and manage multiple projects of average complexity.
  • Coordinate with internal team members and external consultants during project meetings.
  • Collaborate with team members to complete tasks and delegate project responsibilities as appropriate.
  • Assist senior engineers in managing project scope, budget, staffing, and schedule.
  • Perform peer reviews of coworkers' work.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Civil, Water Resources, or Environmental Engineering or a related degree.
  • E.I.T. (Engineer-In-Training) certification or capability to obtain E.I.T.
  • 0-3 years' experience in water resources design and analysis for a professional engineering firm.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and engineering software programs such as HEC-RAS and HEC-HMS.
  • Understanding of FEMA floodplain studies and stormwater management concepts.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master of Science (M.S.) degree in Civil, Water Resources, or Environmental Engineering or a related degree.
  • Co-op/Internship experience in relevant fields.
  • Experience with Low Impact Development (LID) or ecosystem restoration design.
  • FEMA Risk MAP program experience.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or Bentley CAD programs.
