About the position

The Engineering Scholar position at the University of Minnesota is a temporary and part-time role focused on supporting research in instrumentation and internet of things systems within the Runck Lab. The successful candidate will engage in research and development advising, contributing to the design, prototyping, and testing of low-cost electronic systems, while also producing professional documentation and outputs related to the lab's work.

Responsibilities

  • Support research, development, prototyping, testing, and scaling process architecting focused on internet-connected hardware systems.
  • Assist in the production of professional and policy outputs such as science training documentation, tutorials, standard operating procedures, online content, journal articles, books, book chapters, and presentations.
  • Support the maintenance and decommissioning of field-deployed systems.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, or a closely related field.
  • 2+ years experience in the design and manufacturing of internet of things systems.
  • 2+ years experience providing technical support and developing patches for existing hardware and firmware systems.
  • 2+ years of experience in the complete hardware system life cycle, including specification gathering, designing, prototyping, manufacturing, quality assurance, deployment, maintenance, and decommissioning.
