About the position

The Senior Civil Transportation Engineer will play a pivotal role in KPFF's Special Projects Division, focusing on complex roadway and transportation improvements in Seattle or Tacoma, WA. This position emphasizes collaboration, project management, and client service, allowing the engineer to enhance their expertise while contributing to innovative solutions in civil design and development.

Responsibilities

  • Apply engineering expertise to diverse projects, collaborating with teams to devise innovative solutions.
  • Contribute to projects involving waterfront and industrial developments, ensuring successful outcomes.
  • Assess risks and develop mitigation strategies to contribute to project success.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance throughout the project lifecycle, including understanding regulations and permitting requirements.
  • Identify and overcome challenges through innovative problem-solving approaches.
  • Manage project tasks, ensuring efficient coordination of timelines, budgets, and resources.
  • Conduct site visits and inspections to ensure compliance with project requirements and industry standards.
  • Mentor team members to support their professional growth and development.
  • Foster strong client relationships by actively listening to client needs and delivering customized solutions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Minimum of 10 years of civil design experience with a PE in the State of Washington or ability to get reciprocity.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Programs.
  • Advanced MicroStation, InRoads, and OpenRoads design experience is required.
  • Working knowledge of AASHTO, USDOT/FHWA, and MUTCD for Streets and Highways.
  • Strong knowledge of construction means, methods, and techniques.
  • Experience in preparing roadway/transportation design documents and specifications.
  • Familiarity with WSDOT Standard Plans and Standard Specifications and Design Manual.
  • Excellent teamwork, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Proficiency in ArcGIS, AutoCAD, Civil3D, and other engineering design software.
  • Demonstrated enthusiasm for developing design and project management skills.
